Racerback is a designation for a special cutting technique used with tops or bras, in which the straps are intersecting at the back in a cross shape. The resulting crossing of the straps is compact and relatively firm and thus provides stable support for the breasts. The racerback is now an important quality feature especially with sports bras; promising utmost stability for extended strain in motion even for large cup sizes.
Raglan sleeve is a designation from the cutting technique. In contrast to conventionally sewed on sleeves, the raglan technique seams in the shoulder section run diagonally from the collar seam to the base of the neck. This creates a sporty look that gives long-sleeved shirts and sweatshirts a casual character. SCHIESSER uses raglan sleeves mainly in the Mix & Relax line, where they lend long-sleeved shirts a casual detail, for example.
Satin is a fabric in a satin weave. It can be produced from various textile raw materials, such as silk, cotton, acetate or polyester. Due to the weave, satin often has a pronounced sheen on one side of the fabric and appears matte on the other side. Satin has an elegant look.
Seamless is a term for underwear without a side seam and flat edgings. Seamless underwear feels particularly pleasant and soft on the skin, doesn’t pinch and is not visible even underneath tight-fitting clothes.
Silicone is a rubber-like, stretchable substance that is used in the underwear industry, in particular for stabilization. As a replacement for rubber bands, silicone strips prevent bras or bustiers from shifting.
As with all materials we use, the textile silicones used by SCHIESSER are subject to strict testing procedures and comply with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Therefore, you can always be sure that you will feel nothing but the best SCHIESSER quality on your skin with all bras featuring silicone inserts.
Silk is a noble, natural fiber characterized by a subtle gloss and flowing texture. The raw material is obtained from the Chinese mulberry silkworm, a mostly bred caterpillar, and then made into a textile fiber through an elaborate finishing process.
Silk is known for its excellent wearing wearability properties: It soothes the skin, regulates the body temperature and quickly wicks away moisture.
Single jersey is a fine, flat fabric quality that has two different mesh sides and is used throughout the textile sector. Whether in T-shirts or nightwear, lounge pants or briefs – single jersey is a true all-rounder and is made from both pure natural fibers and synthetic fibers.
Since single jersey is relatively stable, it is often combined with elastane in the SCHIESSER range. The popular 95/5 series, for example, with its harmonious blend of 95% cotton in single jersey quality and 5% elastane, is an ideal fabric for comfortable underwear that is wonderfully soft and cuddly. But also 100% single jersey cotton enjoys great popularity in briefs, shirts or undershirts, especially in the children’s underwear sector.
In order to give corsetry more support, instead of or in addition to wide underwires, smaller rods can also be used. The flexible rods are usually made of plastic or coated metal and support the breast at the side or bottom of a bra.
To avoid damage, underwear with rods or underwire should always be washed in the washing machine inside a laundry bag. If a part should accidentally come loose, it remains safely in the bag and damage to the machine can be prevented.
The term “smock” refers to an ornamentation of a garment with fine folds and gathers, which is fastened by an elastic band. Smocked items not only look particularly pretty, but also promise comfortable wear and a perfect fit.
At SCHIESSER, smock decoration is used especially in the fashionable women’s or even children’s sectors. For example, a smocked leg end on a pair of lounge pants not only creates a sophisticated look, but is also very comfortable.
When there is a lot of movement in sports or leisure time, the female breast is exposed to extreme stress, which can be absorbed using a special bra. A sports bra encloses the breast, protects ligaments and skin without restricting freedom of movement.
As an underwear specialist, SCHIESSER has developed three sports bra shapes which are suitable for every level of stress intensity:
