Modal

Modal is an industrially-produced, semi-synthetic fiber that’s of 100% plant-based origin.
In general, beech wood, a naturally renewable raw material, is used for the production, thus making modal particularly environmentally friendly.

How is modal made?

The beech wood is first stripped of its bark and chopped up into small chips. Over the course of a multi-staged solution process, the chips are then processed into a cellulose mass. This mass is pressed through a fine spinneret, from which the modal fibers are created.

As a rule, we at SCHIESSER use modal made by Lenzing, who is especially careful when it comes to the high recovery of chemicals during the manufacturing process. As a result, wastewater and air emissions are significantly reduced. Another environmental benefit: the by-product, sodium sulfate, created during fiber production can then be used in cleaning products and the food industry.

Product characteristics: flowing, soft and functional!

Modal is ideal for underwear production, because the fibers provide maximum comfort. The material is wrinkle-free and easy to care for, tear-resistant and shape-retaining. Not to mention it doesn’t create static.

Modal fabric is especially good when it comes to managing moisture; this means your skin remains comfortably dry even when sweating.

Our recommended care instructions: machine wash at 40°C, then air dry (please do not tumble dry). With proper care, modal is very durable – another plus in terms of sustainability.
