Double rib quality underwear is a true classic that spans generations. So it is with good reason that we now celebrate the 70th anniversary of SCHIESSER’s „original quality“. This will remind some people of their grandparents‘ underwear; we know after all that grandma and grandpa almost always know what’s good. So, let’s travel back in time for a bit and bring this double rib classic into the 21st century.

The double rib underwear’s robust texture is achieved by knitting two purl stitches and two knit stitches in alternation. 70 years ago, it was an innovation particularly in combination with the new knitting machines and in comparison to the stiff, woven fabrics common at the time. At long last, garments felt suppleand comfortable. The double rib structure not only ensures elasticity, it also feels soft and smooth against the skin – the perfect combination.

Schiesser’s basic formulafor this double rib classic always contains 100% cotton. Pure cotton feels especially pleasant on the skin and has high moisture absorption properties. It was and still is particularly beneficial during physical exertion. You can wash it at 60ºC and some of it even allows for boil wash (95ºC). However, if in doubt, the care tag will also tell you the recommended washing instructions.
We have started to revive double rib in many of our lines and collections. Nowadays, the double rib structure is also used in combinations of modal or rayon with other materials. Above all, of course, double rib makes its comeback in our Revival line. Positive things from the past paired with trendy minimalism and naturalness. In our opinion, double rib is always the right choice! A true highlight not just as an undershirt, but also when worn as a top!
